Everything is based off of Frisk's & Chara's imagination, as they explore a cave system in the mountains of their backyard.
There are no monsters or magic. Only childhood innocence.

Prologue:
Meeting Flowey Frisk was off on a childish adventure, playing around and exploring the mountainous terrain far outside his backyard. Before he knew it, he trips and stumbles down a deep pitfall. Miraculously, he lands on a bed of golden flowers, which broke most of his fall. He had a scrape on his knee, and luckily he had a bandage with him. Brushing off, Frisk decides to climb back up the steep gravel slope to try and get out. While doing so, he spots a ledge just below the hole. On the ledge was a single golden flower, spotlit from the sky above. As Frisk climbs towards the flower's ledge he feels a sense of comfort, but that immediately fades as he grabs the flower's exposed roots for gripping and the loose soil falls apart with it. He falls further down. A little stunned, he looks back up at the slope. The flower was gone, and the ledge was destroyed. He had no way of climbing back up now. Determined to find another way out, Frisk descends into the cave.
A lesson was taught, but brushed aside.- - - - - -
The Ruins One of the first things Frisk finds in the cave is a momma goat, who followed him and stayed by his side. There were also carvings and drawings in the caves, one of them being the "Delta Ruin." There was a lot of other interesting things in the ruins, like an ecosystem of frogs and insects, and a ton of snails. When deciding to go deeper into the caves, the goat didn't respond well. But eventually she let Frisk leave.

Snowdin, Waterfall, Hotlands, and the CORE- Sans is actually the bodies of a team of spelunkers, all wearing the same colored gear, who died in different places within the caves. Thus giving them the illusion of being one person, who's teleporting. Most of them died from the cold, clenching their teeth.
- The dog guards are simply a pack of stray dogs.
Doggo is blind but can hear your movements, which a child like Frisk would interpret as "if I don't move, he can't see me."
- Papyrus was another one of the spelunkers who died, killed in a cave-in/rock slide. His
battle body is actually the boulders and rocks that crushed him. This also made him seem like he was much taller, and the rocks spaced out his bones.
His
blue attack was the result of stepping on bones in deep powder snow, combined with fear and mist.
- Frisk comes along a creek down in the cave and decides to walk along it, eventually spotting a fish. This fish was furiously swimming upstream, the same way Frisk was headed. "She's chasing me!"
- There was also the "echo flowers" which were simply bio-luminescent flowers and fungi that were in the cave. Coincidentally this part of the cave had a very strong and sensitive echo.
- There's a lot of trash thrown about the caves in this area, as if the city's storm drains are nearby. There were also a couple stray cats, and other animals.
- The caves were getting warmer. A child's imagination may think there's lava nearby, since they're basically in the mountains.
- Alphys is a bearded dragon lizard that Frisk finds and takes with him.
- Amongst the garbage, Frisk finds and old gameboy. This basically taunts him, because there's no game inside and it can't be played.
He eventually finds a slightly broken cartridge, which he puts into the game. It boots up and shows a figure glitching frantically, almost as if dancing and striking poses. Bored with this broken handheld, he drops it on the ground. This causes the lizard to become curious, and inspect the broken gadget.

The BarrierFrisk finds what could be the exit, but is blocked by a territorial ram. Commenting, "it's the king of the mountain!"
He eventually gets past the ram, and is free to leave. Before leaving, Frisk finds the skull of a baby goat with a single golden flower growing from it, and is reminded of the start of his journey.

"Genocide"
Frisk returns home, and eventually brings his friend Chara back there to show her what he discovered. Little did he know that Chara had already been there and seen it all.
When they returned to the entrance, they found a small goat eating the flower bed that broke Frisk's fall from before. Chara comments, "I remember him. He's my friend."
Chara then proceeds to mess everything Frisk shows her. Terrorizing the wildlife, disturbing the unmarked graves, etc..
On the way back to the exit, they stumble upon another one of the dead spelunkers. This one, however, neither Frisk or Chara had seen before. It was well decayed, some of the bio-luminescent plants growing out of the skull. Chara starts to feel bad about messing with everything, but she brushes it off because she doesn't want to look weak in front of Frisk. Chara desecrates the final corpse, and they move on.
